Taeen (Tracey) Yu

Supervised Intern

Education

I am currently completing my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Before beginning my journey into the mental health field, I built a professional career in banking, business development, and real estate, where I developed a deep appreciation for building relationships, understanding people's unique stories, and supporting individuals through important life decisions.

Experience

Originally from South Korea, I have been living in Hawaiʻi and the United States for over 14 years. My personal and professional experiences have shaped my passion for helping individuals, couples, children, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. As a bilingual therapist-in-training, I understand the unique challenges that can come with cultural transitions, parenting, relationships, and balancing life's many responsibilities. As both a mother and graduate student, I value the importance of resilience, connection, and finding hope during life's challenges.

Beliefs

I believe that every person has the capacity for growth and healing when they feel safe, understood, and accepted. Strong relationships are the foundation of emotional well-being, and I strive to provide a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their experiences, discover their strengths, and work toward meaningful and lasting change.

Approach

My therapeutic approach is primarily grounded in Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, Bowen Family Systems Theory, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe that understanding the patterns within ourselves and our relationships helps create opportunities for healing and healthier communication. I tailor my approach to each client's unique needs while continuing to grow through clinical supervision and ongoing learning.

Clients

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, children, and families and have a special interest in relationship challenges, parenting concerns, blended families, anxiety, life transitions, multicultural experiences, and child emotional and behavioral development. I am committed to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed care and welcome clients from all backgrounds. I provide therapy in both English and Korean.
