Barbara Hamilton

Intern - Supervised

Education: I have a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Colorado State University. I am pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chaminade University of Honolulu and will be graduating in spring 2026.

Experience: I have been married for twenty years and raised two children, experiences that have deeply informed my understanding of family systems, life transitions, and the dynamics of relationships. Early in my career, I operated a licensed home-based childcare facility in California for about a decade, where I supported children's emotional and developmental growth while working closely with parents. After moving to Hawaii, I owned and operated a Photography Business for another decade. My work has involved clients from all over the world, representing the full spectrum of human experience. It has been a joy to create art with them that honors their journey. These years have taught me the importance of attunement, empathy, and presence - skills that now inform my clinical work.

Beliefs: I believe in the strength and resilience of the human spirit and the potential of the therapeutic process. Therapy offers a rare space to claim power in our lives by slowing down, reflecting, and realigning with our values and priorities. It offers a place both to heal, explore, and process as well as a platform for intentional growth. I view therapy as a collaborative journey where clients can explore and process difficult emotions, develop new insights, and practice adaptive coping strategies. I believe that even in moments of pain, uncertainty, or disconnection, each person possesses the capacity for courage, growth, and renewal.

Approach: My approach is integrative and client-centered, grounded in respect for clients' cultural values, worldview, and lived experience. I strive to create a therapeutic alliance characterized by safety, empathy, and mutual respect. Drawing from family systems theory, attachment-based interventions, narrative therapy, and cognitive-behavioral techniques, I tailor treatment to meet each client's unique needs and goals. I take a holistic view of well-being - considering emotional, relational, cognitive, and environmental factors - and emphasize collaborative, strengths-based work that empowers clients to enact meaningful and sustainable change.

Clients: I love working with individuals, teens, couples, and families.

Fees: $25/session. At this time, I do not accept insurance.
