Pre-Licensed Therapist - Supervised

Sierra Fallau - MHC- I

MSCP, Pre-Licensed Therapist - Supervised

Education: I have a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University, HI, emphasizing Mental Health. My Bachelor of Arts degree in English is from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.

I have taken courses in American Sign Language (ASL) at Kapiolani Community College and online at Gallaudet University, all taught by native ASL signers.

Experience: My passion for helping others has led me to become a mental health therapist. In addition to counseling at Pono Roots, I am also a Direct Support Worker at EasterSeals Hawaii, assisting clients with special needs of all kinds: those with autism, Down syndrome, deaf/hearing loss, and cerebral palsy, to name a few. My career experiences with these clients encouraged independence and intermingling within the community in which they belong.

Being born and raised in Hawai’i, I draw from my personal and professional experiences to relate to clients in our shared unique lifestyle living in an island community.

Beliefs: Everyone and anyone can benefit from therapy and the power of the therapeutic relationship. The client holds the ultimate truth when it comes to themselves. The therapist is equally important as a guide to help the client and provide an outside perspective.

I believe one’s identity is vital and inseparable from one’s social, cultural, historical, and political context. This identity affects one’s experiences, how they react to said experiences, and how they make their choices. I believe these choices are linked and influenced by emotions. With a balance of emotions and a sense of belonging within their community, their identity can be validated and accepted as they define it. I believe in the Jesuit, holistic concept of Cura Pesonalis, or that the “care for the entire person” of their mind, body, and spirit is vital.

Approach: Empathy and unconditional positive regard are at the heart of my approach. I am a person-centered therapist. Person-centered therapy puts the client first and the therapist as an equal partner, focusing on collaboration and giving power to the client. Since the client knows themselves best, only they can be the ones to decide what changes will genuinely help.

Clients: I currently focus on keiki under 12 years, and teens. I respect all races, cultures, ethnicities, spiritualities, and religious affiliations. I am LGBTQIA+ supportive.

Languages: I offer sessions in English. I understand intermediate American Sign Language (ASL), I continue to work towards fluency.

Fees: $125/hour, sliding scale upon request; I currently do not accept insurance.
