Pre-Licensed Therapist - Supervised

LeeAnn Villa, MFT-I

Pre-Licensed Counselor

Education: Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, National University.

Experience: Much of my experience and continued motivation stems from supporting youth and their ohana through community-based services, I am committed to facilitating positive peer mentor groups for children, teenagers, and/or their caregivers. I am grateful for all the spaces I have been welcomed to provide services over the years, from private practice to non-profits. Through my continued work, I have seen the difference that a safe space and positive environment can make in a person’s life during a time of crisis. With consistent training, natural sense of curiosity and thirst for research, I have current resources for my clients, and those living with grief or trauma, due to loss or separation by death, foster system, natural disasters, divorce, or incarceration. For the price of one, with me you are receiving the knowledge from three licensed and extensively credentialed mentors of mine. I am also under supervision to provide intensive, in-home (IIH) therapy to children and youth who have an IEP through their school, to support positive family functioning. I have experience in working with individuals as young as three, couples, groups, and utilizing therapeutic techniques harmonious to the individual or group.

.

Approach: Adapting to life adjustment, no matter what age you are, even with a trained professional, may take time. As a local with roots in Hawai’i, I will be here for you to explore different ways to approach healing. For parents or guardians seeking help, during my clinical experience under supervision of a certified Play Therapist, I helped children and families process difficult experiences and emotions through play. Play is a natural way for children to communicate and is an approach I take along with methods from solution-focused therapy, Bowenian therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other family systems approaches as I maintain that foundation of knowledge for licensure requirements.

Beliefs: You are the expert at your life. Feedback and resources can be helpful though! Having the courage to seek help from me puts you at the stage for change and you will have a safe and supportive environment where you can be comfortable exploring your thoughts and feelings. Increasing positive well-being means honoring you and building the awareness of how that exactly affects the world around you. With positive mirror neurons, you will discover the mindset to cope with life’s challenges. Personalized sessions and collaborative care, your treatment plan will be tailored to your unique needs and aspirations.
