Jason Sozo, MFT-I
Pre-Licensed Therapist - Supervised
Education: I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hawai‘i Pacific University and my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Chaminade University of Honolulu. I am currently continuing my professional development through doctoral-level training in Marriage and Family Therapy, with a strong focus on relational, systemic, and couples-based work.
Experience: Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years as an entrepreneur, professional photographer, and U.S. Army veteran. These experiences shaped my understanding of resilience, identity, transition, discipline, and the complexity of human relationships. My personal and professional journey eventually led me to the field of therapy, where I found a deeper calling in helping individuals, couples, and families move through pain, disconnection, and life transitions with greater clarity and purpose.
I have experience working in addiction recovery and military-connected settings, supporting individuals navigating substance use, stress, trauma, relationship challenges, and major life changes.
Belief: I believe people are not broken; they are often adapting to pain, fear, loss, or relational wounds in the best ways they know how. Healing begins when clients feel safe enough to understand themselves honestly, make sense of their experiences, and move toward a more grounded and connected life. I also believe spirituality, values, and personal meaning can be powerful parts of the healing process when clients choose to bring them into therapy.
Approach: My therapeutic approach is grounded in Family Systems Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and attachment-based work. I often help clients identify relational patterns, emotional cycles, family dynamics, and protective behaviors that may be keeping them stuck. In therapy, my goal is to create a space that is honest, compassionate, and practical, where clients can gain insight and learn concrete tools for change.
Clients: I work with individuals, couples, families, and military-connected clients. I have a particular interest in supporting couples who feel disconnected, stuck in repeated conflict, or unsure how to rebuild trust and emotional safety. I also work with clients navigating addiction recovery, life transitions, parenting challenges, spirituality, trauma, grief, and identity development.
